The Parliament gave the celebration on 27th of August its previous title – The day of Independence. This day had been named “Republic’s Day” by the former communist administration. Moreover, the actual Parliament decided to set on 27th of August “Day of the National Flag”.<\/p>\n

Moldova is an independent state, but its population, both elites and grassroots, continue to bear the psychology of a subordinate nation. This appears in how late independence was declared (27th of August), the way political elites speak about the memorable 4th-of-April-2005 vote, and the actual political crisis.<\/p>\n

First, even the date when Moldova declared its independence is suggestive. Following the putsch that took place on 19-21 of August 1991, Armenia declared its independence on 23rd of August, Ukraine – on 24th, Belarus – on 25th, Georgia and Baltic states did it before the putsch, and Moldova let a week to pass from the moment the failed coup d’état took place before the declaration of independence was issued on 27th of August.<\/p>\n

Secondary, Moldova can not be independent as long as it lacks politicians who would reason independently. It’s acceptable to have consultations with foreign partners and take into consideration external factors. But politicians are to take final decisions and to be responsible for their actions. All foreign interventions in domestic policy had been bainful.<\/p>\n

Finally, the actual political crisis can not be passed beyond with the efforts of EU, USA or Russia. They can only help Moldovan political actors to negotiate, so that ultimately the crisis can come to an end mainly on the influence of internal factors and counts of Moldovan political actors.<\/p>\n
