Prime Minister Vlad Filat today participated in demonstrative command and HQ drills aimed at ensuring public order and security during mass rallies. The drills were organized by the Interior Ministry at the Chisinau-based republican stadium, the government’s communication and press relations department has said.<\/p>\n

The special brigade Fulger, the patrol and guard regiment Scut, carabineer troops, relief workers, firemen and doctors participated in the exercises. Police simulated a protest rally attended by instigators seeking to destabilize the situation.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat congratulated the policemen for their skills and successful completion of the exercises.<\/p>\n

"Police proved that they are able to defend citizens’ interests and to ensure the observance of human rights and freedoms," Filat said, adding that citizens’ safety must be the top priority of the law enforcement bodies.<\/p>\n

The premier emphasized that reforms promoted at the Interior Ministry were aimed at respecting human rights and freedoms. "The reforms carried out at the Interior Ministry are meant to efficiently implement the legislation and to secure its strict observance by police," Filat said.<\/p>\n

The prime minister asked the Interior Ministry’s leadership to make a detailed analysis in order to ensure necessary working conditions for police and to provide them with adequate technical equipment.<\/p>\n
