The Vice Prime Minister of Moldova, Victor Osipov, considers "illogical" another appeal of Transnistria’s authorities to the United Nations requesting the recognition of the self-proclaimed republic.<\/p>\n

"Tiraspol authorities are using the decision of the Hague Court of Justice on Kosovo to once again claim their groundless aspirations promoted for the last 20 years. Transnistrian authorities’ claim is nothing new, they just use the Hague Court’s decision on Kosovo independence as a plausible pretext", said Vice Premier on Monday.<\/p>\n

He reminded that the resolution of the Hague Court "is consultative and has a narrow way of looking, referring exclusively to Kosovo. Tiraspol’s appeal to the UN is absolutely unreasonable, since the UN does not recognize the independence, it includes in its list only the states whose independence is already recognized", Osipov stressed.<\/p>\n

At the same time, last Friday, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the unrecognized Transnistrian republic Vladimir Yastrebchak declared "the decision of the International United Nations’ Court on Kosovo will have a major importance for dynamic negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement".<\/p>\n

"Besides the rest, this kind of decision contains several conclusions and provisions that concern not only the case of Kosovo. First of all it is the Court’s decision that proclamation of independence is not in conflict with the international law, that this case is not a pure precedent only for Kosovo and cannot exist separately from all other conflicts. According to us, the Court’s decision leaves our opponents with no essential arguments on the issue that Transnistria’s existence as a state contradicts the international law. We continue to prove that it does not contradicts it, but is even according to the international law", emphasized Yastrebchak.<\/p>\n

Moreover, he said the negotiating format "5+2" is "rather dead than alive, this is why it is necessary to choose a correct therapy for its revival".<\/p>\n

"The shock therapy, which several colleagues that are interested in its sooner official restart, are insisting on, may not always be successful. In order to officially resume the "5+2" format, special conditions are needed, which was said in the joint declaration of the presidents of Russia, Moldova and Transnistria (the declaration of March 18, 2009), and in the May declaration of Russia and Ukraine presidents", said Yastrebchak.<\/p>\n

He is sure that spadework is necessary, "otherwise, within the "5+2" format, issues that experts were not able to solve will have to be shoveled by political representatives".<\/p>\n

Head of Transnistrian Ministry of Interior said "the principle of Moldova’s territorial integrity does not come in full measure from the situation that we see today".<\/p>\n

Commenting on Russia’s position in the Transnistrian settlement, he said it is based on three points: succession of agreements, equal status of negotiating parties and the territorial integrity of Moldova.<\/p>\n

"We are satisfied with the first two clauses, but we indispensably need to carry out consultations regarding the third one.
