Prime Minister Vlad Filat today payed a working visit to the autonomous territorial unit Gagauz-Yeri, the government’s communications and press relations department has said.<\/p>\n

The prime minister visited the Baurci-Agro company in the village of Baurci, the landslide-risk route Baurci-Congaz, the Micoleni company in the village of Congaz, and the Celpeni Agro company in the village of Besalma.<\/p>\n

At the Baurci-Agro company, the prime minister was familiarized with the works carried out during the harvesting campaign. He was informed that due to unfavorable weather conditions the harvest in that household would be lesser than expected. However, the local authorities noted that, in general terms, the situation in this field was satisfactory. Vlad Filat discussed with machine operators involved in the harvesting campaign, asking about their working conditions. The machine operators were pleasantly surprised by the premier’s visit, mentioning that it was the first time when a prime-minister visited them in the fields.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat visited the landslide-hit road portion Baurci-Congaz covering 6 kilometers. The prime minister said that it was inadmissible for a road linking two of the biggest villages in Europe to be in such condition. He added that the rehabilitation plan would be carried out until the end of this year, and the road would be fixed during the next year.<\/p>\n

At the Congaz-based Micoleni company, the prime minister got acquainted with the tobacco plantations and talked to people involved in the harvesting process.<\/p>\n

The leadership of the enterprise informed the premier that this year 39 hectares of tobacco had been planted and the 500 employees had an average monthly salary of 3,000 – 4,000 lei.<\/p>\n

The governor of the Gagauz autonomy said, in the context, that the economic agents which plant tobacco benefit from subventions worth 1,000 lei per hectare. He also mentioned that there were no problems regarding the sale of tobacco. Furthermore, the governor said that the local authorities jointly with the new owner of the Ciadir-Lunga-based tobacco factory was trying to find new solutions and opportunities in order to further develop this branch in the region.<\/p>\n

"The economic activities are important, but the people’s health is more important for us," Filat said.<\/p>\n

At the Celpeni Agro company in the village of Besalma, the premier was familiarized with the experimental fields of sunflower and corn. The company’s leadership mentioned that the new experimental species would ensure a richer harvest, and subsequently – a better profit. Vlad Filat mentioned that agriculture was an important branch of economy and that the new technologies were playing an important role in its development.<\/p>\n

Asked by the journalists to make a short assessment of his visit to the Gagauz autnomy, Filat said that he was there for the fourth time in the last months and that he was satisfied by the state of things there.<\/p>\n

"The progress is ensured first of all, by the people who know how to work and who can efficiently organize," Filat said.<\/p>\n

In the context, Mihail Furmuzal said that in the last months the premier visited the Gagauz region more than in the last two years.<\/p>\n

Filat said that the government would further support the territorial unit, in line with legal competences and opportunities. The premier said that the social objectives and infrastructure projects would be the top priorities.<\/p>\n

In the end of the visit, Vlad Filat met the governor’s father, Macar Furmuzal, and congratulated him with his 80 years anniversary.
