The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) will have its own candidature for the presidential elections due next autumn. PLDM leader Vlad Filat made this announcement at a today’s news conference. Filat specified that he will propose his colleagues from the Alliance for European Integration (AIE) to shorten the period given for the election campaign from 60 to 30 days.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat said that the PLDM’s candidacy for the presidential polls will be elected at a congress of the party which is to be held soon. Filat avoided saying whether he wants to run for the office of president or not. He stressed that "he will not let the others saying him where to stay and what post to hold."<\/p>\n

Filat said that it is only normal that each AIE party has its own candidature for the office of president. He emphasized that this will not affect the Alliance’s activity, but on the contrary, will make it stronger, and AIE will come with a larger number of mandates in the future parliament. "PLDM will propose candidacies both for the office of president and other state offices, so that the people know whom to vote for," the PLDM leader said.<\/p>\n

Today, Filat launched an initiative by which he proposes to change the period given for carrying out the election campaign. "This autumn is difficult, as we will have to work to alleviate the floods’ impact; a commission for assessing the situation regarding the visas’ liberalization will come to Chisinau next autumn as well. The Moldovan voters are mature enough, and the candidates who have concrete ideas and proposals will be able to express them to the electors in one month too."<\/p>\n

The PLDM leader urged the residents to participate in the referendum due on 5 September, so as to legalize the direct voting by the people. "This is a promise which the PLDM has earlier made, and that takes form now. By the vote due on 5 September, we will show that Moldova is a free country, able to decide its future," Vlad Filat added.<\/p>\n
