Prime Minister Vlad Filat today participated in a meeting of high-level government officials focused on the decentralization reform, the government’s press service has said.<\/p>\n

Attending the meeting were ministers, lawmakers and international experts.<\/p>\n

Filat pointed out the importance of the discussed subject, noting that power decentralization and securing the local autonomy were among the government’s priorities. Filat said that a string of actions had been taken to this end and noted that successful decentralization depended on political will and fulfilment of this commitment.<\/p>\n

The prime minister demanded that all the authorities got immediately involved in the elaboration of a decentralization strategy (July-December 2010) and in debates on the decentralization reform.<\/p>\n

Filat said that after the reform is carried out, the local authorities would be given not only more competences but also responsibilities which would contribute to the optimization of the administrative act. "It is also necessary to analyze the capacities of the local public administration and agree on a clear mechanism of intervention in case the balance between the central public administration and the local one is not respected," Filat said.<\/p>\n

State Minister Victor Bodiu said that experience of decentralization in other countries would be considered during meetings on the matter. "By decentralization, we want to create effective administration, eradicate poverty and provide quality public services," Bodiu said.<\/p>\n

Bodiu said that the draft of the policy of power decentralization and local autonomy would be completed in late September 2010.<\/p>\n

Deputy speaker Iurie Tap said that the legislative sector in this sector is incoherent and cannot be enforced. "Therefore, the local public authorities are unable to exercise their competences and lack financial resources," he said.<\/p>\n

The first meeting of the commission dealing with the issue is scheduled for July. The relevant parliamentary commission will address the decentralization reform too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
