The opposition Communists regard the day of 28 June as "the day of liberation from the Romanian bourgeois occupation", Communist leader Vladimir Voronin said on 28 June. He described the presidential decree on annual commemoration of the victims of the Soviet occupation and the actions taken by the ruling alliance as "pre-electoral agitation".<\/p>\n

Voronin said that one should know one’s history, but the message should not be distorted for political and electoral reasons. "The bourgeois Romania conquered this territory that never belonged to it."<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Voronin described the Soviet-era deportations as lawless deeds because of which people close to his family suffered.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the postponement of the today’s parliamentary meeting, Voronin said that the ruling alliance "got scared of the reactions prompted by this decree and cancelled the meeting". He added that the alliance’s statements that they knew nothing about the decree are "fairy tales".<\/p>\n

Voronin also said that the Party of Communists, which has been boycotting the parliament’s meetings, would return to the parliament, but "only selectively" in order to participate in discussions on sensitive issues for society.<\/p>\n

On 24 June 2010, acting President Mihai Ghimpu signed a decree declaring 28 June as the day of Soviet occupation. The decree also says that Russia, as legal successor of the Soviet Union, should withdraw its troops from Transnistria.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
