The event was held within the Moldova-EU dialogue in the visa field, launched in Luxembourg on the occasion of the Moldova-EU Cooperation Council also on 15 June, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry&#8217;s mass media and public relations directorate has said.<\/p>\n<p>Moldova&#8217;s delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Iurie Leanca and the European Union&#8217;s one by Deputy Director-General of the European Commission&#8217;s Directorate for Justice, Freedom and Security Jean Luis De Brauwer. The meeting marked the beginning of a process of dialogue between Moldova and the European Union to set a free visa regime for Moldova&#8217;s citizens.<\/p>\n<p>At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Iurie Leanca presented a comprehensive report on the progress made by Moldova while implementing reforms in the justice and domestic affairs fields over the last period, as well as the Moldovan government&#8217;s priorities in this area, set till late 2010. In particular, the Moldovan official referred to the issuance exclusively of biometric passports starting from 1 January 2010, establishment of a governmental working group which will ensure the creation of the necessary conditions for visas&#8217; liberalization. Leanca also emphasized that the progress achieved till this period was possible including due to the Moldova-EU Mobility Partnership, EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine and the Moldova-EU structured dialogue in the human rights area.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, the head of the EU delegation, De Brauwer, welcomed the results recorded till present. He stressed that the dynamic with which the reforms are being implemented gives clear prospects to attain the final objective of this process, &#8211; the abolition of the visa regime for the Moldovans.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the meeting, the sides agreed that a European Commission&#8217;s evaluation mission will pay a working visit to Moldova.
