Prime Minister Vlad Filat today gave a news conference on the results of his visit to Luxembourg on 14-15 June, the government’s press service has said.<\/p>\n

Filat said that the visit included two important aspects: the bilateral dimension and the European integration dimension.<\/p>\n

Referring to the meeting of the Moldova-EU Cooperation Council, Filat said that both the EU Spanish Presidency and EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule welcomed the Moldovan authorities’ commitment to the fulfilment of the objective of political association and European integration seen in the association agreement that is being negotiated by Moldova and the EU.<\/p>\n

Filat said that the EU offered Moldova a document called Mechanisms of Implementation which details the matrix of policies that the Moldovan authorities presented to Commissioner Fule during his recent visit to Chisinau. Also, the report on joint assessment of results achieved during negotiations on the association agreement with the EU was approved for the first time since the launch of negotiations.<\/p>\n

The prime minister said that the dialogue on the liberalization of the visa regime was launched during the meeting of the Moldova-EU Cooperation Council, noting that it will develop in line with the lines approved by the EU member states which were officially passed on to Moldova on 15 June.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat said that the launch of the dialogue on the liberalization of the visa regime is a historical moment for Moldova and thanked the cabinet members and the European institutions operating in Moldova for their hard work aimed at meeting this objective.<\/p>\n

"Yesterday we started the dialogue, but now it depends on us to complete it as soon as possible so that our citizens travel freely to Europe," Filat said.<\/p>\n

The prime minister said that he personally committed to monitor the fulfilment of conditions set for lifting EU visas.<\/p>\n

"Moldova is part of the united Europe in terms of values and mindset. Moldova is a European state, with European citizens and the liberalization of the visa regime will make it possible to remove artificial barriers to the unity of European citizens, because our return into the European family is a natural and irreversible future," Filat said.<\/p>\n

The bilateral dimension was approached during meetings with His Royal Highness, the Grand Duke of Luxembourg Henri, Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Laurent Mosar and the leadership of the Association of Banks and Bankers.<\/p>\n

"The Luxembourg authorities appreciated at the highest level the pace and quality of reforms launched in Moldova short after we took over the government. Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, one of the outstanding European politicians, who is also the president of Eurogroup, particularly praised the way the Moldovan authorities have been managing the budgetary deficit in conditions of international financial and economic crisis," Filat said.<\/p>\n

Filat also said that the sides agreed to organize a Moldovan-Luxembourg economic forum in Chisinau, which would coincide with Jean-Claude Juncker’s visit to Moldova in the autumn of 2010.<\/p>\n

The prime minister said that Luxembourg expressed willingness to back Moldova’s European integration efforts, in particular the negotiations on the association agreement with the EU, allocation of EU’s macro financial assistance and liberalization of the visa regime.<\/p>\n

Filat announced that an agreement on social protection between Moldova and Luxembourg was signed during the visit.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat said that the dimension of European integration was approached during the meeting with the friendship group for Moldova, which includes 19 EU member states, at the meeting of the Moldova-EU Cooperation Council and at the meeting with the head of the European Investment Bank, Philippe Maystadt.<\/p>\n

"Following discussions about priorities in the reform and reorganization of the national economy, at my request, the European Investment Bank, has already launched actions necessary to extend support for Moldova in order to ensure access to quality drinking water by elaborating a national strategy. At the same time, the European Investment Bank expressed its clear interest to step up cooperation with Moldova in the infrastructure of roads, energy and development of the small and medium-sized enterprises," Filat said.<\/p>\n

Filat said that the participants in the meeting of the friendship group for Moldova pointed out the support that the country enjoys on its European integration path, particularly praising the way the constitutional crisis has been managed.<\/p>\n
