Moldova’s government condemns the communist opposition’s attempts to manipulate the public opinion by interpreting the actions of commemoration of the victims of deportations and political repressions.<\/p>\n

The following is the government’s comment on defamatory statements by the Party of Communists (PCRM).<\/p>\n

In 2010, it was for the first time ever that the Moldovan government came out with the initiative to commemorate the victims of deportations and political repressions by public actions. These actions fit into the government’s recent efforts to rehabilitate the deportees and the victims of political repressions, including in financial terms. Thus, the government fully assumed the payment of compensations to this category of citizens by taking over the burden from the local authorities. This year, the government has repeatedly allocated money to this end, including 15.4 million lei on 10 June. All in all, 25 million lei is provided for in the 2010 state budget for the victims of deportations and political repressions.<\/p>\n

Beyond the financial aspect, moral rehabilitation actions are much more important. The deportees and other people subjected to political repressions are the category towards whom the state, the citizens have a huge duty. The government took into account namely this ground when it ruled to organize actions of commemoration on 13 June.<\/p>\n

The PCRM’s attempts to give a political connotation to these actions prove nothing but lack of respect for the people subjected to political repressions.<\/p>\n

The government describes as groundless and irresponsible the PCRM’s statements concerning the use of administrative resources and the action’s political colour. Ordinary citizens, as well as representatives of different political formations attended the 13 June action. Given that we live in a democratic state, each of the participants in the commemoration event was able to freely express his\/her viewpoint, including on the Soviet communist regime, as well as to take other actions which do not run counter to the legislation in force. The present government radically differs from the former government as it secures the freedom of expression and action.<\/p>\n

The Moldovan government calls on all the political forces in Moldova not to allow politicizing such a delicate subject as the one of Stalin-era deportations and political repressions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
