The Alliance for European Integration (AIE), through its action programme, does its utmost to implement the European values in Moldova, so that the country fully meets the standards of the European community by the time of accession to the European Union.<\/p>\n

Acting President, Parliament Speaker Mihai Ghimpu made the statement at a today’s meeting with the leader of the European People’s Party, Wilfried Martens, the presidential press service has said.<\/p>\n

Mihai Ghimpu said the AIE does its best to carry out the initiated reforms, no matter the difficulties faced by Moldova. The head of state specified that the first results in Moldova’s modernization are already seen, and the Western partners positively appreciate this.<\/p>\n

Ghimpu said that, while taking into account the latest geopolitical evolutions in the region, Moldova’s accession to the European family should be a special subject on the EU’s agenda, by giving the latter every support.<\/p>\n

Wilfried Martens stressed that Moldova has a European mind-set already. He believes that the country stands all the chances to be accepted to the European Union in the immediately next wave after the two Balkan states, Croatia and Macedonia.<\/p>\n

"The European People’s Party strongly backs the EU’s expansion, as this is a re-foundation of the European Union. On these grounds, we will support by all means Moldova’s European integration process, and we are willing to provide the necessary assistance under all the aspects," Wilfried Martens said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
