The Moldovan acting president and parliament speaker, Mihai Ghimpu, has expressed satisfaction with his participation in the informal summit of the CIS heads of state held in Moscow on 8 May.<\/p>\n

He told journalists that "the summit was held successfully" and that he signed a number of decisions on behalf of Moldova.<\/p>\n

"They [the decisions] extended the mandate of the CIS secretary, and we agreed that Sergey Lebedev will continue to hold this post. We also set the date of the next summit and discussed Russia’s chairmanship of the CIS. The summit took place as normal," Ghimpu said.<\/p>\n

Asked about his discussions with Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev, Ghimpu said that they "not only spoke, but also drank and ate".<\/p>\n

"In particular, we discussed the Dniester issue. I expressed my position which I expressed in Chisinau as well. I do not promote double policy but tell the truth," Ghimpu said.<\/p>\n

Ghimpu said that Medvedev did not ask h! im why the Moldovan head of state did not stay for the Victory Day parade in Moscow.<\/p>\n

"There were no hints that he did not like my decision. I was not the only one who did not attend the parade, the presidents of Ukraine, Belarus and other CIS states [didn’t attend] either," Ghimpu said.<\/p>\n

Moldova’s delegation headed by Ghimpu left for Moscow on Saturday morning [8 May] and returned in the evening. As Infotag found out, the other heads of state were surprised that Ghimpu arrived on a scheduled commerial flight and was in a hurry in order not to miss the plane from Moscow on Saturday evening.
