Moldova will borrow Bulgaria’s experience of ensuring transparency in the decision-taking process at the local level. The statement was made today during a visit to Moldova by an official delegation of the Bulgarian public administration.<\/p>\n

Meeting the Bulgarian delegation, the head of the parliamentary commission for social protection, health and family, Liliana Palihovici, said that the commission presently discusses amendments to the law on social services, as well as a draft law on volunteer activities. "I have received more proposals from non-governmental organizations to improve the law. It is good when civil society is active, so that the legislation ensures the country’s development and reformation," Palihovici said.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Palihovici informed that a non-governmental organization works in Moldova to monitor how active the MPs are at parliament meetings, whose interests they represent, etc.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the deputy mayor of the Ruse city, Bulgaria, Atila Minev, said that, one year ago, MPs from Bulgaria who were leaving a parliamentary faction could also join the other party, just like in Moldova. Presently, the MPs who decide to leave a certain faction may act only as independent lawmakers. This amendment was made at an initiative by the civil society," Minev stressed.<\/p>\n

The visit by the Bulgarian delegation takes place within the project Promoting Civic Involvement in Transparent Local Decision-Taking Process. The project is carried out in January-September 20101, and its goal is the citizens’ active participation in the decision-taking process within the community.
