Romanian President Traian Basescu has said that he wants to consolidate bilateral relations with Moldova, stressing that the agreements signed in Bucharest today will contribute to this process. Basescu made this statement within official consultations between the two countries’ delegations held at Cotroceni Palace, a MOLDPRES special correspondent has reported from Bucharest.<\/p>\n

During a meeting with Romanian President Traian Basescu at the Cotroceni Palace, acting President Mihai Ghimpu said that relations with Romania saw another level of development after the elections on 29 July 2009. In several months, Moldova managed to cancel the shameful visas for Romanians and benefited from substantial support from Bucharest authorities. The agreements signed today will open up new prospects for Moldovans.<\/p>\n

Romanian President Traian Basescu stressed that the agreements signed in Bucharest today will become official documents, noting that they point out a string of issues earlier discussed in Chisinau.<\/p>\n

Basescu said that the first agreement signed today is focused on the increase in the number of Moldovan beneficiaries of scholarships in Romanian education institutions. In this respect, the number of seats will be supplemented up to 5,000 for the 2011-2011 academic year.<\/p>\n

Romanian and Moldovan ministers signed six cooperation agreements in the presence of the two heads of state at Cotroceni today. Among them, there are the establishment of a strategic partnership for Moldova’s European integration, an agreement on the implementation of a 100-million-euros-worth programme of technical and financial assistance for Moldova, a protocol on cooperation between the education ministries to increase the number of scholarships given to young Moldovans, etc.<\/p>\n

"We will sign a series of acts for the protection of military information till next autumn. Also, we will have to complete the legal framework to provide financial support to Moldova.
