The day of 7 April 2009 was the day when we proved that we have the right to live freely and to be part of the European family, the leader of the Liberal Party (PL), Mihai Ghimpu, said at a commemorating meeting dedicated to the last April victims.<\/p>\n

Mihai Ghimpu stressed that the April 2009 riots were triggered by the communist government. He said that, despite the fact that the communist government was speaking about democratic values, it was permanently violating them, and in order to stay in power, it used force against young people who no longer wanted to live in a totalitarian country. The PL leader considers that, by their actions from 6 and 7 April, the young people showed the direction and path on which Moldova should embark.<\/p>\n

At the meeting, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), Vlad Filat, said that he is proud that he is a citizen of Moldova – a country which proved that it is strong and consolidated to achieve its goal of integration into the European family of democratic states.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat said that the events from 7 April 2009, beyond their dramatic character, opened up new prospects for Moldova, giving new values to the country’s citizens. "We have a European future. A future which will give each of us new rights, freedoms and well-being. And this future is much closer than the enemies of this state imagine," the PLDM leader stressed.<\/p>\n

The leader of the Our Moldova Alliance (AMN), Serafim Urechean, said that the day of 7 April 2009 may be compared with 27 August 1991, when the first democratically elected parliament and all the people voted the Declaration of Independence. "In 2009, the young people who disagreed with the lifestyle established by Voronin’s dictatorship, urged by their own conscience, took to the Great National Assembly Square to defend their justice, freedom and European future."<\/p>\n

The deputy leader of the Democratic Party (PD), Valentina Buliga, said that, one year ago, the young generation changed the history and the destiny of this country. "The day of 7 April will remain in our memory as a day of change, dignity, freedom and establishment of the democratic principles in Moldova," she said.<\/p>\n

A sample of the Freedom Monument was presented at the meeting. The monument is to be officially unveiled on 7 April 2011. Vlad Filat said that this monument is to come as a sign of gratitude for all those who fought for freedom, who offered Moldova a present and future by their sacrifice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
