Prime Minister Vlad Filat today met the deputy chairman of the European Broadcasting Union, Claudio Caponn, the government’s press service has said.<\/p>\n

Claudio Caponn thanked for the opportunity to meet the prime minister and noted that he had been invited to Chisinau by the national public broadcasting company Teleradio-Moldova.<\/p>\n

The guest said that many countries are fighting against the financial and economic crisis, which hit public radio and TV companies including, and added that the European Broadcasting Union is willing to assist these companies.<\/p>\n

"The European Broadcasting Union strongly believes that the public audiovisual service is an important component of the European culture," Claudio Caponn said.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the organization he represents is ready to back Teleradio-Moldova in various sectors, including with technical assistance, experience and orientation towards different opportunities.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat said that the process of transformations launched by the current government covers not only the social, economic and political sectors, but also many others, including the public audiovisual sector.<\/p>\n

Filat said that over the last months, Teleradio-Moldova was taken out of political influence, noting that the company has its Supervisory Board which elected the leadership of the public broadcaster independently.<\/p>\n

"But the audiovisual reform needs support as well. I am talking not only about financial support, but also about the expertise and experience that our foreign partners can offer," Filat said, welcoming the European Broadcasting Union’s willingness to cooperate with Teleradio-Moldova in this direction.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat said that the public broadcasting company plays a special role in the development of society by informing people correctly and objectively.
