They described the event as historical for Moldova, especially due to the recorded results and the opened prospects.

"Beyond the significant financial support received by Moldova, we got something very important in Brussels – consolidation of relations with the foreign partners, we managed to show once again that we are fully committed to the state’s reformation, that Moldova overcame the status of isolated country at the international level and that it deserves attention," Vlad Filat said.

The prime minister stressed that, for the first time over the last years, Moldova’s government proved that it has a clear view, that it knows what it should further do, that it understands its responsibility within the strategic partnership with the friendly countries.

Vlad Filat praised the international community’s attitude towards Moldova expressed by the presence of first-rank international personalities and by 32 bilateral institutions and ten multilateral development institutions at the meeting of the Consultative Group.

"The government’s ambitious view to relaunch Moldova through political, economic and social reforms got the support of the development partners. Thus, one of the objectives of the Brussels meeting of the Consultative Group was to mobilize support and funds to implement the priorities provided for in Rethink Moldova, starting from 2010. And we attained this goal," the prime minister said.

The prime minister specified that the development partners provided Moldova with financial assistance worth about 2.6 billion dollars for 2011-13. This money, meant to continue the reforms in Moldova, include assistance given starting from January 2010. And namely: assistance provided by the International Monetary Fund under an agreement signed with IMF and approved by the Fund’s Board of Directors last January and the funds of the Millennium Challenge’s COMPACT programme, signed in Washington in January 2010.

Vlad Filat said that 52 per cent of the 2.6 billion dollars given to Moldova represents grants, and about 48 per cent is easy-terms loans given for a 5-10-year grace period and an interest rate of 0-1.2 per cent.

The prime minister stressed that the financial assistance given by the donors will be used to implement projects in the following sectors: roads’ restoration, agriculture, water supply and sanitation, health, energy sector, efficient public service, regional development, social protection, education, de-centralization reform, business development, e-government.

The assistance provided by the European Union amounts to 550 million euros, the one given by EU member states to 187 million euros (of which 100 million euros is a grant by the Romanian government), the USA’s to 227.41 million euros. The International Financial Institutions (IMF, World Bank, United Nations Organisation, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and European Investment Bank) will provide 957.52 million euros.

The prime minister also said that, at the Partnership for Moldova Forum, he along with EU Commission for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule signed a memorandum between the European Commission and Moldova on National Indicative Programme 2011-2013 within the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument.

Under this programme, the country will get assistance worth 273.4 million euros to deepen cooperation and partnership between Moldova and the European Union to implement reforms in three priority fields: good government, state based on rule of law and ensuring fundamental freedoms, human and social development, trade and sustainable development.

The Moldovan government along with the World Bank and the European Commission signed the Final Declaration of the Partnership for Moldova Forum, committing to implement efficiently and transparently the assistance given to Moldova to restore economy, to continue economic, political and social reforms, so as to achieve the modernization objectives defined in the strategic document Rethink Moldova.

Vlad Filat thanked all the development partners for their attitude and support provided to Moldova to develop and continue reforms.

"The assistance given to Moldova by the international development partners represents a substantial contribution and is decisive for the economic recovery and implementation of the necessary reforms to modernize and relaunch Moldova," the prime minister said.

Reading Time: 3 minutesMoldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat, World Bank Country Manager for Moldova Melanie Marlett and Marlett and First Secretary of the European Commission Wolfgang Behrendt held a news conference today, the governments press service has said.

[3

post-161677","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics
Reading Time: 3 minutes
Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat, World Bank Country Manager for Moldova Melanie Marlett and First Secretary of the European Commission Wolfgang Behrendt held a news conference today, the government’s press service has said.

The officials informed about the meeting of the Consultative Group – Partnership for Moldova Forum held in Brussels on 24 March 2010.
