Thus, a special share will be given to the projects with sure results, achieved in a short time. At the same time, a series of more ambitious objectives are being fixed as well, which allow successfully carrying out the process of Moldova’s economic re-launch.

A fundamental problem for the national economy represents the re-starting of the real sector’s crediting, without which it is practically impossible to achieve a lasting economic growth. And namely in this stage, Moldova needs support of international structures and organisations, including the experience of the states which have already managed to take the concerned sector out of crisis, the economics minister specified.

Valeriu Lazar and Libor Kroska stressed the need to optimise the mechanism of financing the sector of Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (IMM), and emphasized the state’s basis role in this respect. To back this thesis, the officials invoked the recently recorded success following the holding of an IMMs contest, financed with the money of the Partner Fund of the Japanese Grant. This fact proves the existence of good business ideas which need support in the access to crediting sources.

The EBRD permanent representative in Chisinau gave assurances that projects dealing directly with the crediting lines are among those 20 projects at the most which can be annually financed by the Bank in Moldova’s economy.

The officials jointly highlighted the foremost importance to woo direct foreign investments (Alternative Investment Solutions) in the economy. Valeriu Lazar underlined that the Economics Ministry presently uses all the instruments necessary to improve the legislative framework on the business and investment climate, starting the process of privatization of state enterprises, optimising the partnership between the public and private sectors.

The deputy prime minister also referred to concrete actions to promote Moldova’s image. Thus, a far-reaching event, Business Week Moldova, is planned to be held in Chisinau next June. A Vienna Economic Forum will be simultaneous held, and a good impact is expected due to this synchronization.

The officials also discussed the importance to present Moldova as productively as possible at a yearly meeting of the EBRD’s Board of Governors, due in Zagreb, Croatia, on 14-15 May. Within this event, Moldova will have opportunity to make a positive and attractive image on the whole by presenting a vast and diverse set of subjects. Among them there are the investment climate, measures undertaken by the government to consolidate the business environment, the vision of Moldovan business circles’ representatives as regards the new reforms in the field, extension of the trade relations, opportunities and challenges faced by Moldova in the major European integration context, etc.

At the end of the discussions, Libor Kroska emphasized the importance of the existence of complementariness between the visions of economic re-launch of Moldova and EBRD. He said that the Bank also gives importance to the projects of implementation in priority areas, such as: transports, drinking water supply, energy sector and energy efficiency, etc.

Set up in 1991, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development uses investments to support the development of the market economy and democracy in 27 countries from Central Europe up to the Central Asia. The organisation’s task resides in promoting durable and ecologic development as component part of all its activities. EBRD provides financing on projects for banks, industrial and trade enterprises, to support both new initiatives and the already existing companies. EBRD also collaborates with public sector companies to back their privatisation, re-organisation of state enterprises and improvement of the municipal services or public utilities.

Since the beginning of its activity in Moldova, EBRD has invested over 300 million euros within over 55 projects in the infrastructure field, as well as in the corporative, banking and energy sectors.
