On Thursday, during a press conference, the leader of “Moldova Unita” Party, Vladimir Turcan [a former Moldovan Ambassador to Russia and ex-Minister of Interior or MVD, and an ex-ranking member of the Communist group of the Parliament] announced about its intention to ask the Parliament and Prime Minister Vlad Filat to dismiss Minister of Defense, Vitalie Marinuta, DECA-press Agency informs.<\/p>\n

According to Turcan, Marinuta changed from a Minister of Defense into a NATO’s unofficial representative to Moldova. Turcan referred to some statements made by the Minister in an interview given to a Romanian radio station and a news agency. According to Turcan, the Minister of Defense stated on behalf of NATO it supported Moldova’s reforms. He also added the military and political experience through which Romania joined NATO and EU should be taken over by Republic of Moldova too.<\/p>\n

Moreover, Turcan asks the Information and Security Service to check the activity of Minister Vitalie Marinuta during 2005-2006 when he was still officer for military policy planning within the main command of the America state of Florida.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Defense rejected Vladimir Turcan’s accusations. <\/p>\n

The Ministry of Defense “is deeply sorry for the fact highly-experienced politicians such as Mr. Vladimir Turcanu hurry making groundless, unchecked and wrong commentaries”, the Ministry’s press release states.<\/p>\n

In the interview given for Radio Romania and Agerpress, which Vladimir Turcanu referred to, one of the questions to Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta was related to the Republic of Moldova’s neutrality status. Thus, the official’s answer appealed to the Constitution that provides this status, the quoted press release shows.<\/p>\n
