At the same time, he noted that the government was taken over by democratic forces in 2009 due to people&#8217;s will.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We crossed a difficult period because when we took over the government, Moldova was practically insolvent. But we managed to cope with the situation and to overcome that difficult period, including with the support of development partners,&quot; Filat said.<\/p>\n<p>Filat said that when the democratic authorities came to power, Moldova was an isolated state and the new leadership had to undertake efforts to unblock and resume relations with Ukraine, Romania and other states.<\/p>\n<p>The prime minister briefed the audience on the Moldovan government&#8217;s actions in the European integration process, pointing out the launch of negotiations on an association agreement with the EU on 12 January 2010.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The Republic of Moldova has set a clear objective and we are heading towards it consistently and with specific actions,&quot; Filat said.<\/p>\n<p>In the context, the premier reiterated that over 70 per cent of Moldova&#8217;s population is in favour of European integration.<\/p>\n<p>Touching upon the Transnistrian problem, Filat said that it stopped being Moldova&#8217;s problem only long ago and turned into a regional one.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We see the settlement of the Transnistrian problem exclusively by peaceful means.
