With the ongoing global crisis, Moldova cannot afford another crisis which may have serious consequences for society,&quot; the chairman of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission), Gianni Buquicchio, said this today during a news briefing held jointly with acting President Mihai Ghimpu.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It is true that we have to overcome the constitutional crisis, because it could lead us to political, economic and social crises,&quot; Ghimpu said.<\/p>\n<p>Gianni Buquicchio said that after discussions held with Moldovan political parties, he came to the conclusion that &quot;there are prospects to work out and adopt an agreement of political forces in order to overcome the crisis&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>The European official said that discussions in Chisinau were mainly focused on the method of electing the president, because this constitutional provision led to crisis in Moldova. &quot;The Constitution of the Republic of Moldova needs some adjustments and amendments, but these can wait. The most important is to operate some amendments to the chapter on the election of Moldova&#8217;s president, but these should be made in line with the norms and legislation in force,&quot; Gianni Buquicchio said.<\/p>\n<p>Mihai Ghimpu expressed confidence that the European experts understood the problems faced by Moldova and would come with proposals and suggestions in order to improve the national legislation so as to avoid similar crises in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Ghimpu also said that the ruling Alliance for European Integration shares the idea that a snap election would be inefficient and &quot;if there are legal ways to avoid this exercise, then they will be used at maximum&quot;.
