Prime Minister Vlad Filat today chaired a working meeting on the removal of barbed wire along the border with Romania, the government’s press service has said.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by heads of the districts adjacent to the Romanian border, the leadership of the Border Guard Service, the Customs Service and the state-run enterprise Moldsilva.<\/p>\n

The participants in the meeting decided to start the process of removing the barbed wire along the border today.<\/p>\n

"Each district will work in line with internal plans and schedules. Start working without cutting ribbons or any other actions like this. The important thing is to complete this process in due time," Filat said.<\/p>\n

Filat asked relevant central bodies and central authorities to cooperate and identify solutions to all the problems that may emerge. The prime minister requested that increased attention should be paid to natural reservations so that the removal of barbed wire does not affect their integrity.<\/p>\n

The prime minister also asked for solutions to the protection of forests, as well as for the subsequent use of lands located beyond the barbed wire.<\/p>\n

The participants in the meeting said that 11 districts border Romania and the barbed wire is going to be removed in 10 districts, as it had been earlier removed in Leova District. All in all the barbed wire is to be removed from 360 kilometres of border.
