Commission for constitutional reform proposes to adopt new version of Moldovan Constitution<\/strong><\/p>\n

Parliament Speaker and acting President Mihai Ghimpu today chaired a meeting of the commission for constitutional reform, the parliament’s mass media relations department has said.<\/p>\n

A regulation of the commission was approved at the meeting, under which the commission’s basic task is to consider the need of constitutional reform and to propose to the parliament the way of its fulfillment.<\/p>\n

The commission will carry out a scientific analysis of the content of the Moldovan Constitution adopted on 29 July 1994, will identify the gaps from the constitutional system. The regulation sees also the studying of the international constitutional framework, a comparative analysis of the proposals submitted to the commission with the EU legislation s regulations to this effect, as well as other tasks.<\/p>\n

The commission members heard a report by a working group for constitutional investigations and analyses, set up at a previous meeting on 4 December 2009. The head of this group, PhD in law, university professor Victor Popa has said that, following the analysis of the Moldovan Constitution’s content, the group deems as necessary to amend 69 articles, which is less than a half of the articles contained in the Fundamental Law, and to propose a new version of the Constitution to the parliament.<\/p>\n

They empowered the working group to elaborate the concerned amendments, as well as a draft law on the procedure of adoption of a new version of the Constitution.<\/p>\n
