The reform of the law enforcement bodies was and still is one of the biggest challenges of the current government. Today, political interference in the activity of police is completely ruled out and the latter is not involved in inadequate activities.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Vlad Filat made statements to this effect at a news conference on 4 January.<\/p>\n

Filat said that the government has been paying high attention to the Interior Ministry because the previous Communist government politicized police and involved them in activities that tarnished their image and diminished people’s confidence in the law enforcement agencies. "The events from 7-8 April 2009 (post-electoral riots) proved the intensity and scope of this phenomenon," he said, adding that a number of police officers and former heads of the Interior Ministry are tried over the tragic events from April and the perpetrators will be held responsible.<\/p>\n

The premier said that under the short and medium-term agenda, the government should strengthen the efficiency of police activities in combating crimes and maintaining order, reducing corruption and excluding abusive behaviour.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
