Ukrainian Foreign Minister Petro Poroshenko and his Moldovan counterpart Iurie Leanca have signed a joint appeal for the European Union to use the financial mechanisms of the Eastern Partnership initiative to create the Dniester Euroregion, the Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported on 18 December (original text – in Russian), quoting the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.<\/p>\n

The document was signed during Poroshenko’s visit to Moldova on 17 December. The parties noted that EU integration is a key priority for both Ukraine and Moldova.<\/p>\n

Apart from that, Poroshenko said that the countries had started the demarcation of the Ukrainian-Moldovan border, the ITAR-TASS news agency reported on 18 December.<\/p>\n

"We have agreed to finish the consultations and start the process to demarcate the central section of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. Everything possible is done to begin this process this year with the participation of monitors from the European Union," ITAR-TASS quoted Poroshenko as saying.<\/p>\n

"During the talks, bilateral relations were reviewed according to the agreements reached by the Moldovan and Ukrainian prime ministers, Vlad Filat and Yuliya Tymoshenko, during the summit of CIS prime ministers on 20 November," Leanca said.<\/p>\n

The two ministers discussed ways to settle the conflict in Moldova’s breakaway Dniester 248896146region and cooperation within the GUAM (regional organization of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova).<\/p>\n
