The Moldovan diplomacy rejects the either noisy or compassionate policy promoted by the former government, and will return to a balanced language and without too large oscillations. Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Iurie Leanca made this statement at a today’s news conference.<\/div>\n

The head of the Moldovan diplomacy informed about the latest actions of the Filat government in terms of foreign policy, among which a visit to Italy – a country which assumed "a crucial role" in Moldova’s European path. The government also took steps to re-launch the relations with Ukraine and Romania, which will speed up Moldova’s European integration. The authorities have working relations with Russia. As for the achievement of the European integration goal, the government made efforts to boost the dialogue with Brussels. A visit to Chisinau by European Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner is a proof of the concrete steps in the sense of Moldova’s democratisation and reformation.<\/p>\n

The minister stressed that the foreign policy’s progress depends to a great extent on the domestic reforms. "Let’s prove coherence and coincidence between statements and actions, and in this way, the dialogue with EU will go very well," the official said.<\/p>\n

Leanca highlighted the necessity to create a reliable image of Moldova abroad. He referred to the need to have friendly states which would help Moldova maintain the subject on the European agenda.<\/p>\n

While answering to the criticism brought on the case of Palanca (settlement at the border with Ukraine), Leanca specified that the concerned documents with Ukraine were signed and reconfirmed during the Communist government. At the same time, he called for calm, as "the transmission of a plot of land is not the same thing with the alienation of the national territory."<\/p>\n

Referring to the negotiation and signing of the Agreement on Association with EU, the foreign minister expressed confidence that it will be signed "in a predictable period of time."<\/p>\n

Iurie Leanca said that the nomination of new ambassadors from abroad will be made in "not a too long period", and emphasis will be put on professionalism and use of European examination while selecting the staff.<\/p>\n

Leanca specified that Russia’s consulate in Tiraspol could not be opened, as the Moldovan authorities have no control in the region. "It is too early to open it, as long as there are no changes in this respect," Iurie Leanca said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
