The Republic of Moldova’s State Budget for 2010 is going to be quite moderate, but the Government shall find means for projects called to bring both parts of the country closer to one another, Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat stated today during his meeting with Dan Russell, Deputy Assistant U.S. Secretary of State, on a visit to Moldova.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat highlighted as considerable the role the United States plays in settling the Transnistrian conflict, and thanked the high-ranked representatives of the U.S. Government for assistance.<\/p>\n

Dan Russell said the United States will back Chisinau’s efforts to achieve a lasting settlement of the Transnistria problem. In this context, he said, much importance is attached to the agreement with the Millennium Challenge Corporation on providing US$262 million for the Moldovan Government, to bilateral assistance programs to an amount of US$50 million, and to the agreement with the International Monetary Fund.<\/p>\n

The Moldovan governmental press service reported today that Premier Filat met also with the Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, Jean-Arthur Regibeau, and with the State Secretary of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Gabor Iklody, and discussed with them Moldova’s European integration issues.<\/p>\n

Jean-Arthur Regibeau said that in the second half of 2010 Belgium will be presiding the European Union and in the first half of 2011 the EU presidency will go to Hungary, and both states are ready to help the Republic of Moldova on its way to European standards.<\/p>\n

Gabor Iklody said the new Moldovan Government’s actions are clearly showing Moldova desires to become a member of the European Union. He said that the new projects Moldova has just started are inspiring optimism and are reflecting the new Government’s goals, and that the previous authorities were more skeptical concerning Moldova’s accession to the European Union.<\/p>\n
