The opposition Moldovan Communist Party will not change its position and will not vote for Marian Lupu as Moldova’s president at the repeated polls on 10 December, Communist leader and ex-President Vladimir Voronin said after a parliament meeting on 10 November.<\/p>\n

Voronin said the Communists would vote for no representative of the ruling Alliance for European Integration. He noted that the Communists need no privileges or promises of various posts.<\/p>\n

"We have a constitution, we have laws and we should meet them. They should not lure us with candies," Voronin said.<\/p>\n

At the same time, he did not rule out the possibility of continuing dialogue with representatives of the Democratic Party and its leader Marian Lupu.<\/p>\n

"We are open for dialogue and even for negotiations. We are self-restrained and calm people. Negotiations are necessary because it is the fate of the country that is being decided and not the fate of Lupu or anyone else," Voronin said.<\/p>\n

As Infotag has already reported, the Communist faction refused to vote for the only presidential hopeful, Marian Lupu, on 10 November. Accordingly, Lupu received 53 votes out of the necessary 61. Under legislation, a repeated election should be held in 30 days, that is, on 10 December.<\/p>\n

In another Infotag report, Voronin reiterated that the only solution to the situation created would be for the Communists to set up a centre-left coalition with the Democratic Party, Nonetheless, Voronin stressed that his party would by no means vote for Lupu and advised him to "withdraw his candidacy and to never ever run for the post of president again".
