The leaders of the four parties constituting the governing Alliance for European Integration stated on Tuesday after an unhappy attempt to elect President of Moldova that the only way out of the electoral stalemate is to amend the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n

The only candidate for the supreme post, Democratic Party Chairman Marian Lupu, presumes amending of the Main Law appears to be of a vital importance.<\/p>\n

"Such changes are just inevitable, for nobody can guarantee that an analogous deadlock will not repeat after an early parliamentary election next year. Until then, we have plenty of time for drafting the amendments and for organizing a referendum. I think the Moldovan people have the right make their verdict", Marian Lupu said.<\/p>\n

Liberal Democratic Party leader, Prime Minister Vlad Filat presumes that "no matter president is elected this year or not, we must amend the Constitution, because in very many instances it appears to be unable to solve the problems we come across".<\/p>\n

Moldova’s Acting President, Parliament Chairman Mihai Ghimpu, who heads the Liberal Party, stated that there exists a reliable method of electing a new head of state – even without the Communists. However, Ghimpu prefers to keep this secret until a crucial moment, so he did not elaborate.<\/p>\n

He only said, "Moldova shall have a president, and this shall be Marian Lupu because he is the most suitable person for the post. I have a solution, and if the Communists do not vote during the repeat election in December, I shall play this trump, so everyone will see president can be elected by using legal means. We will elect the head of state on the principle of a simple majority, i.e. by 50% plus one ballot, as it is used in European practice".<\/p>\n

Ghimpu’s AEI colleagues, in particular Marian Lupu, are saying they have no idea about such a trump.<\/p>\n

The Communists slashed the AEI’s intention to amend the Communist for the sake of electing president.<\/p>\n

MP Iurie Muntean (MCP) stated on Tuesday, "With an account of how they have been acting lately – I mean they started re-writing the electoral legislation during an election campaign – one may expect anything from them. They appear to have a very vague idea about what legitimacy is as such, what our European strivings are, what democracy is, and about many other things we have already got used to over last 8 years".<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
