"Nobody can guarantee whatsoever that those Communist faction members who feel a sympathy for me will vote for my election as President of Moldova", Democratic Party Chairman Marian Lupu, the only candidate for presidency, stated on the ProTV-Chisinau channel on Monday night.<\/p>\n

Lupu remarked that there are rationally thinking people in the MCP faction, who really care about Moldova and its future, "but the Communist Party is an organization with a stiff vertical of power and a strict party discipline".<\/p>\n

Marian Lupu reaffirmed he had held nearly a 40-minute-long meeting with MCP Chairman Vladimir Voronin recently, during which they discussed the situation that may appear in case Lupu is not elected president.<\/p>\n

"The current political crisis is developing against the background of a deep economic crisis, so in case Moldova has to hold an early parliamentary election, it will be unable to attract foreign financial assistance. International donors need to have certain guarantees that things in the republic will be developing successfully", Lupu said, reviewing only this part of his conversation with the ex-president.<\/p>\n

He said the governing Alliance for European Integration did not nominate a second presidential candidate to avoid a funny situation, when parliamentarians are busy proposing another candidate, while being absolutely sure the alternative person will not receive even a single ballot.<\/p>\n

"We decided to not repeat a situation, when an alternative must play a dummy’s role. If the Communists had nominated their candidate, that would be another pair of shoes, for the MCP would then participate in the voting. The ad hoc electoral commission must submit a report of the emerged situation, and the Parliament must decide about further actions", said the Democratic Party Chairman.<\/p>\n

Marian Lupu dispelled statements that he is allegedly reluctant to enter into a dialog with the Communists.<\/p>\n

"These are just speculations. The AEI’s position on this issue is unchangeable. And the phony statements are aimed at stirring up discord among citizens", Marian Lupu stated, and reaffirmed he stands ready for a dialog with the MCP.<\/p>\n

Concerning his meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Chisinau on October 9, Marian Lupu said that after a 15-minute-long general conversation on Moldo-Russian relations, Dmitry Medvedev only asked about the presidential election date, and wished him success.<\/p>\n

"I admit that in a more refined language of politics, the conversation could mean something", as Lupu put it.<\/p>\n

In his opinion, there exists no guarantee whatever that after an early parliamentary election of 2010 the present situation will not repeat. In such case, "the only solution will be to introduce amendments to the Constitution so as to let the entire nation elect a president".<\/p>\n

Asked about the Alliance for European Integration’s viability, Marian Lupu replied this depends on each AEI member, "for a coalition is something requiring concessions, compromises and observance of national interests. If each AEI members is driven by such principles, then the future will belong to the Alliance".<\/p>\n

Marian Lupu said he is not regretting his recent membership of the Moldovan Communist Party, for "even despite certain difficulties that I came across in the MCP, this is experience – a part of my life. Moreover, there are things for which I should even thank the Communists", Lupu said, though did not explain the things.
