About 21.5 thousand tons of ammunition remains at Russian military depot near the Colbasna village of the Rybnitsa raion, New Commander of the Operative Group of the Russian Troops (OGRT) Colonel Viacheslav Sitchikhim communicated in the "Pridnestrovie" newspaper.<\/p>\n

He remarked that the group numbers less than 1.5 thousand militaries, who must fulfill the peacekeeping operation by providing the security of weaponry, arms, ammunition and material values and to operatively react to sudden changes of the situation in the region.<\/p>\n

In the Commander’s words, the stationing of the Russian troops in Transnistria facilitates the peace keeping on the both Dniester banks and creates conditions for talks and a political dialogue for the settlement of contradictions between Moldova and Transnistria.<\/p>\n

Sitchikhin underscored a constructive character of relations with the local authorities and the population, which associates its hopes for preserving peace with the OGRT.<\/p>\n

He does not consider as quite correct to designate Transnistria as a "hot spot", despite the fact that the political situation in the region remains complicated and the "Moldovan-Transnistrian conflict" has not been settled until the present moment.<\/p>\n

"Our units serve in their usual regime, 90% of militaries serves on a contractual basis and only 10% are servicemen, who have been called up", the Colonel said.<\/p>\n

He remarked that like in all the units of the Russian Armed Forces, the process of the combat studies is conducted in the units of the Operative Group of Russian Troops continuously.<\/p>\n

"The Commandment plans and conducts shootings, driving of military cars, tactic exercises. We are currently preparing ourselves for the final inspection for the 2009 academic year. Certainly, we are preparing all the necessary documents, proceeding from our particular dislocation and the specific features of our equipment: nothing remained from heavy weaponry – neither artillery, nor tanks, nor mechanized infantry combat vehicles. So armored personnel carriers have the biggest small arms caliber. All the remaining small arms have the caliber – 7.62 and 5.45 mm", the OGRT Commander said.<\/p>\n

Touching on the withdrawal of the Russian troops from Transnistria, he recalled that they are stationed in Transnistria on the Russian administration’s political decision and only this is empowered to decide the further fate of the OGRT.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
