The signature of an association agreement with EU is a priority task the ruling Alliance for European Integration has set itself, Moldova’s Acting President, Parliament Chairman Mihai Ghimpu stated over Radio Moldova on Monday.<\/p>\n

According to him, the agreement may be signed in late 2009 and early next year, "but this does not yet mean Moldova will give up its participation in the Eastern Partnership Project, which opens for us an access to necessary funding to help cover budget deficit and restore the national economy".<\/p>\n

The acting president stressed the new country leadership must carry out reforms that will enable Moldova to become an associated member of the European Union. In particular, "we must repay arrears and implement the reforms, which the previous government was supposed to do against the already expired EU-Moldova European Neighborhood Policy Action Plan".<\/p>\n

In his words, the Communist government left its heritage of unresolved problems not solely in the sphere of reforms but, essentially, a complicated-most situation in the economy.<\/p>\n

"We need means to cover a budget deficit and for other needs. But access to European funds will become possible officially if the Republic of Moldova signed a Memorandum with the International Monetary Fund. An IMF mission will arrive in Chisinau on October 14", Mihai Ghimpu said.<\/p>\n

He agreed that the conditions, which the IMF mission is preparing to put forward, may well cause populace’s discontent. Ghimpu did not elaborate on the conditions, and only said that Moldova will have to agree to them because "such is the result of the previous governance by the Communist Party".<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
