Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat is paying a two-day visit to Brussels. On the first day of his visit, he met representatives of NATO, the European Parliament and the European Commission, and held bilateral talks with the Belgian prime minister.<\/p>\n

On Sept. 29, during his visit to the European Commission, Prime Minister Vlad Filat informed European representatives of the foreign policy priorities promoted by the new Moldovan government.<\/p>\n

They discussed the measures the government is set to take in order to overcome the financial crisis in Moldova.
\nThe agenda of the visit also focused on the issues related to Moldova’s relations with the EU: launching negotiations on a new cooperation agreement, stepping up dialogue on the liberalization of the visa regime and continuing dialogue to settle the conflict with Moldova’s rebel Dniester region (aka Transnistria).<\/p>\n

Filat also met the head of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek, who said that any support of the European community depended, first of all, on the signing of an agreement with the International Monetary Fund, whose mission will arrive in Moldova on 14 October.<\/p>\n

Filat also met his Belgian counterpart and the foreign minister of Belgium. The sides discussed ways to develop Moldovan-Belgian commercial cooperation.<\/p>\n

As regards discussions with NATO representatives, they were mainly about the possibility of deepening cooperation within the Partnership for Peace Programme, which Moldova joined in 1994.
