In the new Parliament, the Communists will be offered to head 4-of-9 standing committees and one of two Deputy Speaker’s posts, Liberal Democratic Party leader MP Vlad Filat stated to the press after the quadripartite consultations today.<\/p>\n

He said the Alliance leaders gathered to prepare the parliament’s September 10 plenary sitting.<\/p>\n

"Posts were distributed strictly proceeding from July 29 election results. We will return to the government formation question a bit later. And for the time being, we will focus on forming the Parliament’s governing bodies", Filat said.<\/p>\n

He confirmed he will soon become an official candidate for premiership, and said that on the level of experts, the cabinet shaping work has been already completed, and that "we have not yet decided finally how many ministries the country will have – 15 or 17. But I can say for sure that the Communist Party shall receive no essential posts in the Government. This is absolutely out of the question, after the Communists have driven the economic situation into a crisis. We have formed a parliamentary majority and have shouldered not only the entire state power but also the entire responsibility for the country development".<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat is not ruling out completely a possibility of holding a new parliamentary election next year, but still hopes things will not go that far.<\/p>\n

"I think the Communists will be wise enough and vote for a new president to thus avoid another early parliamentary election, for in such case they will receive much fewer votes. I guess they will prefer to remain in parliament as a team of 48 rather than taking a risk of a new election", Filat said.<\/p>\n

At the July 29 parliamentary elections, the Communist Party won 48 mandates in the 101-seat legislative forum, the LDPM – 18, the Liberal Party 15, the Democratic Party 13, and the Moldova Noastra Alliance – 7. However, the latter 4 parties united into a coalition and, with 53 mandates, have become a governing majority.
