The second plenary sitting of the new Parliament of Moldova, scheduled by the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) parliamentary majority coalition for September 2, will not be broadcast live by the Teleradio-Moldova public company, its Chairman Valentin Todercan stated to Infotag today.<\/p>\n

He said that, so far, no such decision has been taken, adding that as a matter of fact this is a prerogative of the company’s Supervisory Board to decide upon such issues. So far, however, the Board has not even discussed this proposal made last Friday by the new parliamentary majority.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the TRM administration issued a statement saying that the Parliament’s Resolution went contrary to the Republic of Moldova’s legislation, democratic norms, and basic principles of the public mass media.<\/p>\n

"Compulsion to broadcast live the sittings of the Parliament is but a forcible interference into the work of the public television and radio. To meet such Parliament’s demand, we have to re-shape our broadcasting plans and schedule already approved by the TRM Supervisory Board and the Audiovisual Coordinating Council. This will cause difficulties, for extra financing is necessary for such new work", the TRM statement said.<\/p>\n

Your Infotag correspondent contacted TRM Supervisory Board Secretary Anatol Dubrovschi, but the man refused to tell anything.<\/p>\n

Ludmila Vasilache, an Audiovisual Coordinating Council (ACC) member, stated the Council does not interfere into broadcasting companies’ editorial policies. She confirmed that decision concerning casting live coverage of Parliament meetings by TRM may be taken by its Supervisory Board.<\/p>\n

"If changes in the broadcasting network are not going to be very great and if there is enough time for the ACC to approve an amended broadcasting schedule, then it is enough for the Supervisory Board to send us a letter notifying whether or not the TRM is going to broadcast live the September 2 sitting of the Parliament", Vasilache said.<\/p>\n

In 2001 through 2005, the legislative forum’s plenary sittings used to be cast live by the Teleradio-Moldova. Subsequently, however, lawmakers voted for canceling that practice.
