On Friday, August 14, the Constitutional Court of Moldova approved the final results of the parliamentary elections and took a decision on the distribution of parliamentary mandates.<\/p>\n

The Court recognized the elections as valid and declined two appeals on the part of political parties – the request by the Christian Democratic Popular Party (CDPP) on the recalculation of the votes, as well as the appeal by the Liberal Party of Moldova and the Moldova Noastra Alliance, which demanded to reconsider the procedure of the distribution of parliamentary mandates. The Constitutional Court recognized both appeals as unsubstantiated.<\/p>\n

According to the final results of the early parliamentary elections the Communist Party gained 706\u0412 732 votes, which constituted 44.69%, the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (LDPM) – 262\u0412 028 votes – 16,57%, the Liberal Party of Moldova – 232 108 votes – 14.68%, the Democratic Party of Moldova – 198\u0412 278 votes – 12.54%, Moldova Noastra Alliance – 116\u0412 194 votes – 7.35%. Three more parties participated in the elected, but failed to overcome the 5% electoral threshold: the Christian Democratic Popular Party (CDPP) 30\u0412 236 votes – 1.91%, the Social Democratic Party of Moldova (SDPM) – 29\u0412 434 votes – 1.86%, the "Alianta Verde" Ecological Party – 6\u0412 517 votes – 0.41%. All in all, 58.8% voters participated in the early parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n

The Constitutional Court took a decision that the parliamentary mandates will be distributed in the following way: the Communist Party – 48 mandates, the LDPM – 18 mandates, the LPM – 15, the DPM – 13, the Moldova Noastra Alliance \u0410\u043b\u044c\u044f\u043d\u0441 – 7. In order to form the Parliamentary majority it is necessary to have 52 votes, for the election of the President – 61. The four parties, which represent the former opposition and already agreed on the formation of the ruling coalition -Alliance for European Integration, have 53 seats in the Parliament.<\/p>\n

The decision of the Constitutional Court is final and irrevocable and comes in force from the moment of its approval. In accordance with the Constitutional Court’s decision, Acting Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin will sign a decree on fixing the date of the first sitting of the new Parliament. According to the Law, it must be held not a month later than in a month after the date of the elections. It was reported earlier that the first sitting of the Parliament may be slated for Friday, August 28.
