The ruling coalition comprising the Moldovan Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), the Liberal Party, the Democratic Party and the Our Moldova Alliance is set to cancel visa regime for Romania as soon as it takes office. The leaders of the four parties made a statement to this effect during a live broadcast on the private ProTV Chisinau TV channel on 8 August.<\/p>\n

The PLDM leader, Vlad Filat, told the television that introduction of the visa regime was an illegal step. "At one of the first parliament sessions we will look into this problem and define legal opportunities for its solution," he said.
\nThe Democratic Party leader, Marian Lupu, said that cancellation of visas for Romanians will serve as Moldova’s good signal to the European Union.<\/p>\n

The leaders of the former opposition parties said that they will also sign the convention on small-distance cross-border movement with Romania. Lupu said that the signing of this agreement is "natu! ral when it comes to relations between the two states".<\/p>\n

The chairman of Our Moldova Alliance, Serafim Urechean, recalled that the Communist authorities introduced a visa regime for Romania accusing it of involvement in the 7 April events. At the time, Romanian ambassador to Moldova, Filip Teodorescu, was declared persona non grata.<\/p>\n
