Without even waiting for post-election morning, Moldovan opposition parties started negotiations yet on Wednesday night concerning the forming of a governing coalition, Liberal Democratic Party leader Vlad Filat told Infotag correspondent on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

"No official election results have been announced yet, but we are in possession of internal results that are close to exit poll findings. Both are showing that the Communists will receive fewer than 50 mandates in parliament. This means the rest parties will have to shape a governing coalition. And we have already launched negotiations", stated Filat.<\/p>\n

He said he had already met with the leaders of the Liberal Party, the Democratic Party and the Moldova Noastra Alliance, "and I am convinced we can achieve a compromise to bring Moldova back onto its path to democracy and to spare the republic of communism. The country has voted for this, and we must fulfill voters’ will".<\/p>\n

He agreed that, really, the current opposition parties are going to have only a minimal majority of 52 or 53 mandates in the legislative forum of 101, which is sufficient to appoint a government but not enough for electing a president, for which 61 mandates are necessary. "But Moldova is a parliamentary republic, and the president’s role is of a minor importance. Anyway, this is a soluble problem", Vlad Filat said.<\/p>\n

Deputy Chairman of the Liberal Party, Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca told Infotag correspondent this early morning that the preliminary election results are speaking of three essential things: (1) democracy in Moldova has won; (2) the opposition must and shall unite; (3) the Communist Party promised repeatedly it would be working for stabilization of situation in the country, and, if so, the Communists must vote to elect a new president, after which they should go into opposition.<\/p>\n

The current opposition parties are ready to propose a neutral candidacy for president – a person belonging to no party but suiting all forces.<\/p>\n

"We believe it would be a reasonable compromise. We would thus get rid of a president who represents the interests of only one party. We have no right to repeat such mistake", stressed Dorin Chirtoaca.<\/p>\n

Moldova Noastra Alliance leader Serafim Urechean stated the liberal opposition is ready to form a coalition with the Democratic Party, but the DP must yet prove its new leader Marian Lupu has really broken with the Communist Party – completely.<\/p>\n

In his turn, Marian Lupu stated the Democratic Party is ready for cooperation with the liberal parties, and shall under no circumstance form a bilateral coalition with the Communist Party.<\/p>\n

"I have divorced the Communist Party recently, and I know the Communists’ mentality very well. MCP leaders are totally devoid of a political culture. It is impossible to enter into a coalition with them", said Marian Lupu.
