The deputy speaker of parliament in Moldova’s breakaway Dniester region (a.k.a. Transnstria), Anatoliy Kaminskiy, has been elected speaker of parliament on July 22.<\/p>\n

Infotag’s special correspondent reported from Tiraspol that Kaminskiy was the only candidate nominated for the post and was supported by 32 out of 34 MPs. Kaminskiy’s candidacy was put forward by the Renewal faction headed by ex-speaker Yevgeniy Shevchuk which holds the majority in the Dniester parliament. Kaminskiy is the deputy leader of this party.<\/p>\n

First parliament deputies accepted the resignation of speaker Yevgeniy Shevchuk, who voluntarily submitted his resignation on 8 July.<\/p>\n

Speaking in parliament, Kaminskiy called on MPs to help him carry out his duties and to "preserve the direction of activities of parliament, whose task it is to pass laws".<\/p>\n

The chairman of the parliamentary committee for economic policy, budget and finances, Mikhail Burla, was elected deputy speaker. Burla was replaced in his former post by Petru Pasat.<\/p>\n

On July 22, the Dniester parliament held its last plenary session before the summer vacations After Shevchuk resigned, Kaminskiy said that the new speaker will be elected in the autumn after deputies return from summer holiday. However, on 21 July, Kaminskiy met Dniester president Igor Smirnov. At that meeting it was decided to elect the speaker before the vacation.<\/p>\n

Anatoliy Kaminskiy was born on 15 May 1950 in the town of Baley, Chita Region, Russia. He is an ethnic Ukrainian. In 1957 he moved to the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic together with his parents. In 1972-77 he studied at the Odessa-based Lomonosov Technological Institute of the Food Industry and later worked at various dairies in Moldova. In 1990-92 he was the chairman of the state executive committee in Ribnita. Since 2000, he has been a deputy in the Dniester region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
