On July 21, the Moldovan opposition Liberal Party (PL), Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) and Our Moldova Alliance (AMN) called on the democratic electorate "to mobilize ahead of the 29 July snap parliamentary election".<\/p>\n

PL leader Mihai Ghimpu told a news conference on Tuesday that each individual should persuade at least one more individual to vote for one of these three parties.<\/p>\n

"2009 should become the year of change. It is up to each of us to make this change happen," he said.<\/p>\n

Ghimpu noted that "it was the democratic electorate who demanded that PL, PLDM and AMN not vote for a Communist president and think of children’s future and thus they did not allow keeping in power the regime of acting President Vladimir Voronin".<\/p>\n

AMN leader Serafim Urechean said that these three parties had never betrayed their voters and acted to meet their interests.<\/p>\n

"Even if we joined the election race separately, our actions are coordinated, we! have a common message and are able to take over power and ensure Moldova’s democratic future," he said.<\/p>\n

PLDM leader Vlad Filat said that the election was important not only to parties but also to civilians who want to live in a free and democratic country.<\/p>\n

"On 3 June [when the opposition refused to elect president, which led to an early election] we won a victory, but this is not enough. Now your votes have a decisive meaning, the vote of each of you is valuable," he said.<\/p>\n

Three parties ruled out the possibility of post-electoral cooperation with the Democratic Party (PD) as they regarded it as a Communist project. The three opposition leaders accused PD leader Marian Lupu of not stopping the torture of the young people detained after the 7 April riots while still being a member of the ruling Communist Party and holding the post of parliament speaker.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
