Over 70 per cent of Moldova’s population are in favour of EU entry and only 25 per cent of NATO accession, according to an opinion poll, the Moldovan news agency Infotag has reported.<\/p>\n

Asked about Moldova’s relations with other countries, 81 per cent of the respondents said the country had excellent relations with Russia, 64 per cent with Ukraine, 46 per cent with the EU, 43 per cent with the USA and 22 per cent with Romania.<\/p>\n

The poll also showed that almost one third of Moldova’s population believed that the ruling Communist Party had benefited the most from the 7 April riots against the alleged rigging of the 5 April parliamentary election. Over 23 per cent of the respondents said that nobody had benefited from the protests, 19.7 per cent said that President Vladimir Voronin had and 13.1 per cent that it was the Liberal parties, Infotag said.<\/p>\n

Earlier, political analysts said that the outcome of the 29 July snap parliamentary election would depend, to a large extent, on the attitude of voters to the post-election riots.<\/p>\n

The opinion poll Vox Populi 2009 was conducted by the association of sociologists and demographers among 1,592 respondents on 1-10 July.
