Ten parties and two independent candidates applied for registration to the Central Election Commission to participate in Moldova’ snap parliamentary elections scheduled for July 29, 2009.<\/p>\n

Parties registered by the Central Elections Commission:<\/p>\n

1. Communist Party of Moldova (PCRM)
\n2. Christian Democratic Popular Party (PPCD)
\n3. Alliance "Our Moldova" (AMN)
\n4. Liberal Party (PL)
\n5. Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM)
\n6. Democratic Party (PD)
\n7. National Liberal Party (PNL)
\n8. Social Democratic Party (PSD, on whose list the Centrist Union is included)
\n9. European Action Movement (MAE)
\n10. "Green Alliance" Ecologist Party (PEAV)<\/p>\n

Two Independent candidates, Victor Bolotnicov and Maia Lagut, also presented their applications, although the Central Election Commission refused to register Bolotnicov due to violations in completing the lists of his supporters. Maia Laguta participated in the 2005 parliamentary elections, also as independent candidate, and she got about 0.06% of the votes.<\/p>\n

It is the first time in Moldova when such small number of electoral competitors participates. <\/p>\n

At the April 5, 2009 parliamentary elections 21 electoral contestants were running for elections (17 candidates competed by the end of the campaign). According to the recounting results, the election turnout was 57.54 percent, while the parties which crossed the electoral threshold got the following results: PCRM — 49.48% of the votes; PL — 13.13%; PLDM — 12.43% and AMN — 9.77%. The 17th Legislature failed to elect a president of the Republic of Moldova and it was dissolved, with early parliamentary elections being set for July 29, 2009.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
