"Will Moldova be or not" – this is the essence of the choice due to be made by our voter. Our party has all grounds to assess the future election in such a categorical manner. And therefore, I declare with all responsibility that the 29 July polls will be a referendum on Moldova’s independence.<\/p>\n

The head of the Moldovan Party of Communists (PCRM), Vladimir Voronin, made the statement at a today’s news conference.<\/p>\n

Voronin said that this treatment of the forthcoming ballot by the PCRM istems from the policies lately promoted by the liberal parties, especially after the 5 April parliamentary election. "What they are doing is not political technology, is not struggle for power. The entire logic of the liberal opposition’s actions is the logic of provocation. These acts of provocation have a single goal – destabilisation. Everybody sees this goal. Who will dare to say now that the social, economic and political destabilisation in Moldova is a patriotic task?" the PCRM head said.<\/p>\n

Vladimir Voronin said that the actions of the liberal parties prove once again that these formations are not opponents of the ruling party, but opponents of the Republic of Moldova, of most of its citizens. The PCRM leader believes that the political crisis provoked by the liberal opposition is defamation of Moldova’s principal priorities in the foreign and domestic policy fields – European integration, unification of the country, consolidation of society and partnership relations between the states from the East and West.<\/p>\n

The PCRM leader emphasized that the initiative to hold the early election does not belong to the Party of Communists, which did its utmost to overcome the political crisis. "Our initiative consists only in the fact that we simply accept the challenge thrown to us. And one more thing: we do nothing but name the things by their true name. Time is ripe for our opponents not to hide behind semi-allusions and quotation marks. Presently, we make a single appeal to all supporters of Moldova’s independence: "Let’s Defend our Motherland!", Vladimir Voronin said.
