The Republic of Moldova will be working persistently for its integration into Europe, but without joining NATO or an aggressive anti-Russia rhetoric, President Vladimir Voronin stated in his interview with the Russian news agency RIA-Novosti.<\/p>\n

“All opinion polls are showing that approximately 70% citizens do not set European integration against partnership with Russia. They have chosen both. Yet their stance with regard to NATO is more categorical. An absolute majority of Moldovans do not want to be in NATO. And this coincides with our constitutional norms. As is known, Moldova is a neutral state, and we are going to remain neutral”, the president said.<\/p>\n

In his words, “Moldova has chosen its own development path. This path is a country unification on the basis of a strategic partnership with Russia and on the basis of European democratic standards. As for our way of European integration, it differs substantially from known schemes, for it is a path of receiving basic European freedoms, a liberalized visa regime and a free trade zone – not a chase for necessary EU membership. For us, this is a path of domestic modernization of the entire complex of legal, economic and social relations – without joining NATO and without an aggressive anti-Russia rhetoric”.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
