On Wednesday, June 17, Dumitru Diacov, head of the Democratic Party in the Republic of Moldova, has offered his party’s chairmanship and the first five slots on the party’s electoral ticket to ex-speaker Marian Lupu and his team. Repeated elections are scheduled for July 29.<\/p>\n

A week earlier, Marian Lupu has left the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n

‘It’s time that a fresh generation of politicians, new, unstained, intelligent, responsible and reasonable people come to the party with solutions for the future of the country’, said Dumitru Diacov. <\/p>\n

‘This project is not a satellite to the Communists, but a genuine project devised by two persons: Marian Lupu and Dumitru Diacov’, Diacov added.<\/p>\n

Though Lupu negotiated with more than one party before joining the PD, the former speaker said he chose Diacov’s offer because ‘it’s the only party that demonstrated political maturity and transparency and is ready for a generation change’.<\/p>\n

Igor Corman, a former ambassador in Germany, was elected the Democratic Party’s vice chairman and Valeriu Lazar, ex-economy minister, was elected its secretary.<\/p>\n

The party adopted its electoral ticket, headed by Marian Lupu, followed by Lupu’s team: Valeriu Lazar, Igor Corman, Andrei Popov, and Adrian Candu. Dumitru Diacov is number 6, followed by Oleg Serebrian. Oazu Nantoi, a well known analyst and expert on the Transnistrian conflict, is number 15 on the Democratic Party’s electoral list.
