These amendments to the Electoral Code were approved in the first reading last Friday, and today &ndash; in the final reading.<\/p>\n<p>According to these changes, the voter turnout minimum for declaring parliamentary elections valid shall now be 33% plus 1 vote, instead of the previous 50% plus 1 vote. If a turnout is below this new norm, a repeated election is held in two weeks&rsquo; time. Previously, the voter turnout minimum at repeated elections was 33%, and now there shall be no norm at all.<\/p>\n<p>The amendments also envisage that the electoral barrier for parties to get to parliament goes down to 5% from the previous 6%.<\/p>\n<p>The amendments were supported by all the 59 members of the majority Communist faction [initial 60 mandates minus of Marian Lupu].
