Russia will continue rendering humanitarian aid to Transnistria in the third quarter. The sides reached a respective agreement in the course of a visit by Chairman of the Transnistrian Supreme Soviet Evgheny Shevchuk to Moscow last week.<\/p>\n

He told the members of the Supreme Soviet that during his meeting in Moscow with various factions of the Russian State Duma they confirmed that Russia will continue the project for support of Transnistrian pensioners.<\/p>\n

“After Russia transfers financial resources, Transnistria will have a possibility to pay out the Russian humanitarian aid in the third quarter”, the Transnistrian Speaker said.<\/p>\n

In his words, he also discussed Russia’s humanitarian aid in other lines.<\/p>\n

“I hope that in Summer-autumn we shall be able to realize another number of humanitarian projects, aimed at alleviating the financial crisis consequences, which affect the Transnistrian national economy and Transnistrian citizens today”, Shevchuk remarked.<\/p>\n

In response to the Transnistrian Supreme Soviet’s request to Russia to render assistance to Transnistria for reducing the negative trends in its national economy in the connection with the world financial crisis and providing support for vulnerable sections of the population Moscow allocated from the beginning of the year two tranches of humanitarian aid in the total amount of 500 mission Russian rubles (US$15 million), which were designed for supporting pensioners, as well as the improvement of meals at boarding schools and children’s homes, newly born babies and mothers at maternity houses, old people at old people’s homes. Transnistrian President Igor Smirnov said in March after his meeting in Moscow with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that Russia will grant US$200 million in 2009 to Transnistria for support of the Transnistrian industry, its national currency and the pension fund.
