Moldovan First Deputy Parliament Speaker Vladimir Turcanu today submitted the documents of Prime Minister Zinaida Grecianii as candidate for the post of president in the name of 33 Communist MPs. <\/p>\n

The presidential runoff is to take place on 28 May 2009. According to the legislation, Turcan submitted Zinaida Greciani’s written consent for the position of head of state, the declaration on her incomes in 2008-2009, the declaration on her citizenship, which has to be exclusively Moldovan, the health certificate and the biography. <\/p>\n

‘I hope that this time we will succeed, not only the ruling party, but the whole parliament, and the opposition will understand that Moldova’s future is above political ambitions’, Turcan said, immediately after the reception of documents by the special commission for the presidential election. <\/p>\n

The special commission for the repeated presidential election on Friday registered the second candidate for the post of president, Moldovan Ambassador to Russia Andrei Neguta, whose candidacy was put forward by a group of 16 Communist MPs. <\/p>\n

A member of the special commission, Victor Mindru, told that Neguta’s documents are in line with the legislation in effect. <\/p>\n

Under the legislation, candidates for president can be nominated by a group of at least 15 MPs or by the person who puts forward his\/her own candidacy being backed by the same number of MPs.
