There are no chances for a full-bodied restoring of dialog between Chisinau and Tiraspol, minister of foreign affairs Vladimir Yastrebchak stated at the conference named ‘Results of Parliamentary Elections in Moldova, and Perspectives of Moldo-Transnistrian Settlement’, held in Moscow on Thursday in the absence of official representatives from the Republic of Moldova. <\/p>\n

Yastrebchak explained: ‘None of the foreign participants in the conflict settlement process is interested in a mighty statehood of the Republic of Moldova’. He pointed out the existing ‘competition of approaches and viewpoints’ on the conflict settlement between the negotiation process participants, first and foremost between Russia and the EU, because he presumes the influence of Ukraine and the United States on the process has been only indirect, so far. Yastrebchak presumes the only possible directions of joint work between Chisinau and Tiraspol may be the handling of socio-economic problems and interaction of the law enforcement. <\/p>\n

The Moscow conference was attended by Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin, Russian Federation’s Representative at the Transnistrian conflict negotiations, Ambassador-at-Large Valery Nesteroushkin, Russian State Duma deputies Constantin Zatulin and Sergei Markov. <\/p>\n

The region was represented by Vladimir Yastrebchak and chairman Yevgeny Shevchuk. <\/p>\n

And Ukraine was represented by Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Dmitrii Vydrin. <\/p>\n

Nesteroushkin said all have now become hostages to the unfinished forming of state power institutions in Moldova, which means that all previous plans and achievements by conflict settlement mediators and observers will require correction. The diplomat said that the April events in Chisinau, that caused a painful reaction abroad, have told destructively not only on the efforts to build new power institutions in Moldova but also on efforts to resume the region’s negotiation process.
