A Council of Europe delegation has arrived to investigate into the 7-8 April events in Chisinau. The CoE delegation consists of 8 experts who will have meetings with state officials, opposition party representatives, civil society, and the media. <\/p>\n

At the meetings, the visitors will be accompanied by Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe in Moldova Amb. Vladimir Ristovski. <\/p>\n

Deputy Prime Minister, acting Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Stratan on Tuesday met the delegation led by Germany’s Permanent Representative at the CoE Ambassador Eberhardt Kolsch, included the heads of the diplomatic missions of Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Hungary, accredited in Strasbourg, and members of the CoE’s Secretariat. <\/p>\n

The Group of Rapporteurs has the goal to collect facts on the situation in Moldova, especially in the context of the events which occurred following the 5 April parliamentary elections. <\/p>\n

Ambassador Kolsch stressed that, at the end of the visit, a report with conclusions and recommendations will be elaborated. <\/p>\n

At the same time, the delegation members were interested in Moldova’s relations with the neighbour countries and the foreign policy priorities, especially in the context of the Eastern Partnership. <\/p>\n

Stratan unveiled the Moldovan authorities vision on the events following the parliamentary polls. Stratan said that these events were characterized, according to all the obvious things, by the interest of destructive and destabilising forces. The Moldovan foreign minister reiterated that, no matter the circumstances, the EU integration has been and will remain Moldova’s most important aim. He asked the European partners for assistance to start negotiations on a new agreement between Moldova and the EU. <\/p>\n

Asked by the delegation members, the head of the Moldovan diplomacy emphasized that, no matter the statements by the political leaders from some neighbour countries, the promotion of pragmatic and an efficient bilateral relation is one of major interest for Moldova.
